Are you feeling stuck in your life right now? Does it feel like you wake up doing the same unfulfilling things and go to bed at night just to repeat this cycle the next day?
This may be happening to you because you are not living your true life. Finding your purpose is the only thing that can set you free.
A lot of people struggle with finding their true life’s purpose but it’s not hard at all.I know I struggled with this because I was looking for it in the wrong place; externally.
To find your purpose in life, you have to search for inwards. It’s within you and no one can help you decipher what exactly it is but when you find it, you will have no doubt about it.
One major reason why people struggle with finding their purpose is that we are looking for that one thing and that’s wrong. Your life’s purpose doesn’t have to be just one.
Remember, we should be growing and evolving and as this happens, our purpose may change at each level of growth we attain.
The purpose of humankind as a whole is to serve one another. We are all interconnected in such a way that we are very similar yet blessed with unique qualities at the same time.
To serve people, you have to know yourself and be whole and what makes you whole is when you start to live the life that’s true to you.
To do this, we need to be well informed about ourselves in order to grow then we can help others. You can’t pour from an empty tank.
I remember a point in my life when I used to wonder why we are here and what we are here to do. It was hard for me to accept that we are here to be born, get an education, get married, go to work, and die.
I couldn’t accept that. It was at that point I started asking the right questions and I found my answers. Life became so much fun to live shortly after!
Steps To Finding Your Purpose
1. Go Within
when was the last time you spent time with yourself? I don’t mean being by yourself but think about yourself and talk to yourself like a friend.
It’s so easy to get caught up in every mundane thing that we come across. There are loads of distractions everywhere pulling trying to pull us farther and farther away from ourselves.
An average person starts their day with his/her cell phone and ends it in such a manner.
Take some time, meditate, and ask yourself what brings you the most joy in life. What makes your heart smile, what makes you feel sad, what makes you feel energized, how do you want to impact the world and people.
What Your Life Purpose Feels Like
- Your purpose in life is not something that will benefit just you.
- It won’t cause you unhappiness or depression.
- Your purpose won’t make you feel uncomfortable or uneasy with yourself.
But…
- It will make you want to get out of bed every morning.
- And will align naturally with your true and higher self and lead to fulfillment.
These are the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself. If your answers keep coming back to something material, then you need to keep practicing this exercise.
Your purpose is not attached to material things but when you follow your own path and live your true purpose, it brings abundance.
2. Explore Things You Love To Do
One way I found the purpose of my life was when I started to do the things that made me most happy. Look into your hobbies and pursue it.
Let me tell you, I battled with the ‘jack-of-all-trades’ syndrome. I am pretty good at a lot of things but I didn’t have the passion to pursue them for long. The one that stuck with me is blogging.
I’ve been doing this for almost two years (though I had to start afresh) and this is what I want to do with my life.
I look forward to every morning for a chance to look at my stats, not the pageviews but at the different parts of the world where people are reading my posts from.
I feel so blessed and happy to know my posts are helping people all around the world and that’s all that matters.
If you have something you are genuinely passionate about, go for it! It will unlock and open doors you never even knew existed.
3. Find Out What Qualities You Are Appreciated For
If you have tried the first two tips and still can’t figure it out, then you can think about what qualities people compliment you on also what problems do people come to you for?
For me, I remember being 13 years old and having much older people confide in me. I don’t know what about me draws people in but I don’t need to know.
The fact that people are happy to come to me whenever they need to talk to someone who can listen, not judge but offer valid advice was enough to keep me fulfilled which led to why I have a blog today.
So, dig deep or pay attention to what people say and appreciate about you. Your purpose will come to you when you are ready to fulfill it. Don’t rush the journey, it’s one you want to savor.
4. Get Healing From The Past
This is very important and I won’t even pretend like I’m an expert that has not had her share of difficulty in this area.
For some, it’s easy to let the past go but we do not heal from it. We just sweep it under the rug.
To heal from the past, we must learn to forgive ourselves. Forgive yourself for putting yourself in harm’s way or a place of compromise.
This is one of the first steps of healing. If we keep bottling everything up inside, this results in blockages that prevent us from excelling.
These blockages are going to keep you from being your authentic self and distract you from finding and pursuing your purpose.
Finding our purpose in life requires us to let go and be flexible in order to get to where we need to go. Which leads to my next point.
5. Let Your Inner Voice Lead You
Looking back, I remember how much I used to love the position of being in control and dictating how and what I choose to affect my life.
I wanted to control my thoughts, the words I chose to speak, and sometimes even the people around me.
The reason was that I was so scared of taking chances because I was coming from a place of hurt and negative experiences.
I wanted to control everything so that I can always ‘be safe’. A friend pointed out to me that I was becoming too rigid. I knew that but I didn’t want anyone else to know.
Shortly after that, I came across some videos by Ralph Smart of Infinite Waters (Diving Deep) and his channel ignited my change process.
Fast forward to today, I am very happy going with the flow of my life and letting intuition guide me.
It’s been an amazing journey for me ever since and I’ve discovered a lot more about myself; my true strength and self-worth.
Find confidence in yourself to know that whatever you experience is a part of your journey to meet your purpose. I have them to thank for my new and healthy perspective of life today.
Conclusion
Finding your purpose in life could be a short or long process for some. But whatever the case is, trust the process.
Being a part of the world today means there’s still stuff for you to do. Don’t despair if you feel it’s hard to find your calling. You will find it at the right time, these exercises above are just tips to help you speed the process.

October 26, 2018These are great tips! I think you’re absolutely right in saying our search for our the purpose of our life needs to start within. We need to get to know ourselves well if we are to know what makes us tick. Letting the past go, forgiving ourselves and learning what others appreciate about ourselves sound like steps in the right way. Fantastic advice on overall.

But, it haunts me when i’m alone. I want and need peace. Not sure what to do ,where or how to start but i’ll keep trying til i get there cos i’m that desperate to get there. Thank you!

July 26, 2019Hi Nana, self-forgiveness is a whole journey that requires patience and kindness to achieve. We all deserve peace and you will find your inner peace eventually when you come to the realization that despite your past, there is an unknown future and you have the power to decide you are worthy of happiness too. Face your past and make peace with so it has no room to hunt you in the present or future. Take important lessons from it and use it to grow.
